Once a person is diagnosed with HIV, he or she should receive counselling and begin on a course of Antiretroviral (ARV) treatment. Along with the ARV treatment, it is important to make healthy lifestyle choices in order to boost your immune system.

Exercising is a huge part of living a healthy life. Exercising in this case does not necessarily mean that you have to be a gym buff, but light aerobic exercises, strength training, and flexibility training should all form part of your exercise regime. Yoga is a form of flexibility training that is very good for people who may not be excited about jogging or running exercises.

There are no actual restrictions to what a HIV positive person can eat, but HIV attacks ones immune system, so it is important to eat a balanced diet with food that helps boost your immunity. Fruit and vegetables should form a large part of your diet, starchy carbohydrates or energy, and very small amounts of fats and sugars.

HIV doesn’t stop you from living a full life, you just need to take living a healthy lifestyle very seriously to give your body it’s best chance of having an immune system that I as strong as possible.
